SO, I broke my foot last week…cooking class is on hold.
The nurse asked me ” what happened”, I replied ” I have too many kids and too much shit on my floor, I ran into the carpet cleaner”. I was pretty irritable as you can imagine. So, there went my BIG plans for waterworld that weekend and painting the exterior of the house along with planting flowers under my tree in the front yard. This is NOT how I wanted to spend the last of my summer months.
I have to say though, my kids have pulled together and helped me out so much…… and it doesn’t hurt to have a mother-in-law who takes the baby for a week!
BROKEN FOOT
COOKING CLASS for kids
I’m starting a kid’s cooking class in my home. Simple recipes where kids learn how follow directions, work as a team and share jobs, time management, and enjoy what they have created. Any good ideas or recipes out there?
R.I.P. Michael Jackson
Yes, this post is a little late, but with 4 kids I have to wait until 12 am to write this.
WOW! Michael Jackson is dead. That sounds so crazy to me. He was so much apart of my childhood, the background to movies, parties, and to life. I grew up in the 80’s and have such a clear image in my head of that red jacket and white glove we all know so well. Despite the allegations against him, I really don’t think he was guilty. I do believe he was a little boy in a man’s body and was trying to rebuild something he never had, a childhood.
He was such an Icon, so creative and magical. Even my 9 year old son has a pretty good idea of who he was, especially when in the car he said to me ” I wouldn’t say Rest In Peace, I would say Rest In Pop”. I thought that to be quite clever of him and was very thrilled that he and my other children were able to know who he was and what he meant to so many people around the world.
We will miss you!!
GOING BACK
I have decided to go back to school soon. I was on my way to nursing school a year ago but went to apply and I didn’t get in this year. That was a HUGE bummer. I have decided on Phlebotomy school. It’s only 5 weekends and I can get my foot in the door now and be ready to go back to work by the time school is back in for the kidos….then add on an EMT course later, that would be fun! I have heard the best way to get a job for phlebotomy after is to go through a temp agency. No one wants to hire you without experience but where do you get your experience?? Sounds like a dumb dilemma.
Anyone know of another or better way to get experience after phlebotomy school?
A GOOD FIND!
You have to check out this site : WWW.FRUGALMOM.NET , I absolutely love this site! You can get tips on how to make your own laundry detergent, soaps, how to cut costs at home, recipes, once a month cooking… the list go’s on and on. I always love the challenge of saving money, not sure why, just always have . I have to say I’m pretty good at it too. Talking about this reminds me of my wedding. I was so proud of how much money I saved. My husband and I planned our wedding in 3 months and it only cost us $1500.00. It was amazing! My dress was awesome ( clearance at David’s Bridal), I bought a lot of my accessories on EBAY and Craigslist, and I got some great deals on those sites. We made our own invitations. We bought the paper at Michael’s craft store and printed on translucent vellum paper and they turned out beautiful, and it was fun to do together. The hardest part for me was putting together the music for seating, and then for the reception. So many choices!
SUMMER TIME
Well, one more week till school is out! yeah! This has been a very long year. It seems that when the kids have homework, so do I. I feel like i just finished 2nd and 3rd grade all over again. I heard that 4th grade is much harder so in a way I’m not really looking forward to when my son starts school again in August. What shall I do with the kids this summer? Summer camps are not what they used to be. The ones that I have found in my area are on average $200 a week, and that’s only about 4 hours a day. How do the parents afford it who actually have to go to work? It’s insane! I searched for about a week and found one that was quite affordable and lasted from 9 to 2pm. Not bad! But still….not good.We definitely can not afford the whole summer but can do just a few weeks.
I do look forward to summer time even though the kids are home full time for 3 months! The BBQ’s, water park fun, road trips, outings to the beach, and of course when all the kids are gone for the weekend I especially enjoy a weekend away with just my husband and I. We definitely need more time for that. It is so important to just get away from all the hustle and bustle of everyday life, bills, stress, kids, work and just enjoy yourselves and relax, have some wine and a nice meal and some real conversation that doesn’t include who pooped when, who was bothering who, what bills are due when, why the cat box wasn’t cleaned out, who’s turn it is to clean the toilet this week, etc.
I’ll keep you posted on all our adventures during the summer.
THE PROPHET
I went to Barnes and Nobles two weeks ago to buy one book…. i left with five. I love that store! I wish i could take more time out of my EXTREMELY busy schedule to relax and browse, have some coffee, people watch, etc. And what is it about people watching that is so entertaining and relaxing anyhow? What i came out with was a few books on raising and understanding children, one on Buddhism and psychotherapy, one about science and spirituality, and one called “The Prophet”. This one, so far, has been my favorite! It’s a poetry book written by Khalil Gibran and illustrated with 12 of his own drawings. He was a poet, artist, and philosopher born in Lebanon and his book has been translated into over 20 languages. So much of what he has to say is so true and so beautifully written. You might have to read it twice to understand everything in it.
